About Us
The MCHS Concert Band is the core group of the Band Department. Meeting 4th period daily, these wind players rehearse for their yearly performances at Veterans Day Ceremonies, Winter Concerts, KMEA Concert Festival, Spring Concerts, Year-End Concerts, Graduation, and other performance opportunities. The MCHS Concert Band receives consistent Distinguished Ratings at the KMEA District 8 Concert Band Festival, playing contemporary and traditional music from a variety of wind band composers.
The MCHS Percussion ensemble, added in in the early 2000's, in an opportunity for our Percussionists to expand their vocabulary, playing music both within their section, as well as with the entire Concert Band. Playing everything from trash cans, to push brooms, to marimbas, this group is a multiple time Mason County Idol Champion. This group meets daily, as part of the curriculum at MCHS.
Mason County Royals Jazz meets daily at MCHS, and is an opportunity for all wind, percussion, keyboard, and string players to participate in America's music. Over the years, Royals Jazz has performed both in the community, as well as traveling to represent our program. From Atlanta, to Louisville, to Maysville, Royals Jazz participates in as many gigs as possible, leading up to the year-end Big Band Dinner Dance.
The Mason County Marching Royals proudly perform at home football games, contests throughout the season, and Maysville parades throughout the year. The Marching Royals have been Class A MSBA Finalists (2016), Reserve Grand Champion at the Tri-State Marching Festival (2016, 2017) and placed as high as 11th (2008, 2009) at the KMEA 3A Semi-finals. The group consists of band members from grades 7-12, and practices exclusively after school.
The MCHS Pep Band is arguably the life of any home basketball game in the Fieldhouse. Utilizing instruments from the typical band instruments, to electric guitar, bass, drum set, and even occasionally the harmonica, this group has more fun than any student group in the school. If you have been to a home or tournament Girls or Boys basketball game, then you have seen first hand the life that the Royals Pep Band brings to the party.
